The front porch roof was leaking. The interior drain in the support column further complicated matters by freezing in the winter. The porch roof needed a re-design in order to accommodate the winter months without the use of heating elements. Our challenge was to design a simpler, less problematic solution to make the roof drain expediently and efficiently. The design had to also be in keeping with the look and feel of the home as if it was “always there.”
It was decided that copper was going to be the new roofing material and we started by removing the stone lentils and creating a new frame that gently sloped the rain and snow melt away from the home’s walls. A base waterproofing membrane was applied under the 16 ounce welded copper roof, bypassing the old drain hidden in the left column. The new roofing solution will last for a long time and the simplified draining system will be less problematic for the home owners.
