Attic condensation was occurring on the roof plywood during the heating season of this newer home. The attic plywood was in good condition but certainly wet during the heating season. Spray foam insulation was applied to prevent the warm moist air rising from the interior of the home from condensing on the upper roof structures.
The homeowner was getting new windows and wanted to also update the insulation in the attic. It made sense from the perspective to add the insulation and prevent the condensation at the same time.
The system we were creating was a non-vented attic solution. Our challenge was to prevent the attic from sweating and closing up the ventilation. The attic insulation was added to the top of the roof where the source of the problem was. This in turn added to the overall all R-value of the home. The homeowner opted for a non-vented attic to realize the cost savings of capping the heat loss in the winter.
“We were recommend by our neighbor who used Bott Roofing & Construction to spray foam their attic. We felt the solution to prevent the condensation and also with our heat loss was a move in the right direction. Not only did our moisture problems go away but also the upstairs is much cooler in the summer months.”
